I'm doing this for a class presentation, so feel free to answer these questions.

1. Compare between male and female drop outs? Which do you think would more likely to drop out? Why?
2. How much does ten pregnancy affect the drop out rates?
3. Is teen pregnancy increasing or decreasing? Why?
4. If teen pregnancy was not responsible for high drop out rates, what do you think are some other reasons to why students drop out from school?
5. What do you think are more effective programs: abstinence only programs or programs informing teens about contraception’s? Why? If you can think of any other programs other than those that are mentioned in the list, feel free to write it here, and please include why you think its effective.

Thanks

1. Compare between male and female drop outs? Which do you think would more likely to drop out? Why? I think boys would be more likely to drop out, but only because they wouldn't be questioned for it as much as girls would be. Men have more oppurtunities in jobs that require physical labor, and therefore don't require a college education, such as maintenence people, janitors, construction workers, etc. Also, boys are more resistant to pressure than girls. If a girl is told over and over that she can't drop out and what a mistake that would be, she probably won't do it, because girls can be guilt-tripped more easily than guys. Finally, you don't need much to get into a tech school, and this is often where a lot of dropouts go so that they can have a decent paying job. This is why you don't see too many girls who are computer tech support people.
2. How much does ten pregnancy affect the drop out rates? I definitely think that's a major factor that can decide if a girl drops out or not. She would obviously have to take time off when she had the baby, and they might never go back because they would be so busy caring for their child that they wouldn't have the motivation or dedication for it. They might also not have very much support from their families or the baby's father, leaving them alone with the full responsibility, having to pay for everything themselves, so they would have to get a job, so they really wouldn't have time to complete their education at that time.
3. Is teen pregnancy increasing or decreasing? Why? I would say decreasing, because more teens are becoming aware of the consequences if they have unprotected sex.
4. If teen pregnancy was not responsible for high drop out rates, what do you think are some other reasons to why students drop out from school? One major reason is that intelligent people aren't challenged enough. They will sit in classes bored all day and get straight A's with little or no effort. This can be frustrating and can make you feel like there's nothing to be happy for. I speak from personal experience on that one. Another reason is a bad environment in the school. It could be bullying, racism, or being an outcast or a whole bunch of other things, which could cause a person to feel like they have to drop out in order to end their suffering.
5. What do you think are more effective programs: abstinence only programs or programs informing teens about contraception’s? Why? Definitely ones that teach about contraception. If you just talk about abstinence, you're just encouraging teens to go out, rebel, and experiment. Never try to conform everyone into one choice. One size does NOT fit all, it never has, and it never will, so don't even try it. Teach them to make educated and informed decisions, and that will go a long way in teaching responsibility and maturity. That way, if they do make a decision that they regret later, they have to live with themselves, because they can't blame it on anybody else that they "didn't know." If you can think of
any other programs other than those that are mentioned in the list, feel free to write it here, and please include why you think its effective.
